Virginia has a history of grossly underfunding its public schools. Despite this, Virginia has consistently ranked well due to the quality of its educators. We need to properly and fully fund our schools, pay our educators beyond national average, and provide resources such as after school programs and breakfast/lunch programs to ALL of our children.
As a Humanist, Jeremy believes that policy should be science-driven and not dictated by religious dogma. As such, fundamental protections for women's reproductive healthcare and LGBTQIA+ affirmation must be fully codified into our laws and state constitution. Voting Rights protections are also essential for the continuation of a properly representative government.
In Southern Chesapeake, citizens are facing an eradication of their land and way of life due to rampant overdevelopment. Due to climate change and reckless building, we are headed towards an increase in flooding and other natural disasters. We need to preserve and protect our natural resources, especially our agricultural land.
Government is not meant to be run in the shadows. All official activity by members of elected office should be easily available for public scrutiny and participation. In addition, campaign finance reform is a major need in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
With the entire House of Delegates and State Senate up for election this year, the urgency of electing candidates that reflect Virginians' desires and not those of corporations and out-of-state interests is high. Don't forget to vote!
